A simple form from before I had landed on what my aesthetic will be, Poison Ivory is a small vessel that clued me into the fact that I was, indeed, improving. There isn’t too much weight in the base and the form itself is pleasing like a small planter. The sharp divot in the top section prompted me to experiment with layering glazes for the first time. The way the layered green peaks through spotted parts of the ivory glaze as well as the orange at the intersection of the ivory and green give it an enjoyable hand-made feel.

In attempt to create a vessel without excessive mass in the base, Bruised came out quite well quite early. that paired with the two tone plus overlap on the dipped glaze brings beauty to this piece. The original blue dip did not coat the surface with enough glaze to come out so clearly. Thus, this piece is the first piece that I successfully re-fired to complete.

Deep Night, made in pair with Wide Ocean, was the second wide belly, slim neck vessel I threw to success. While still imperfect I really enjoy the form of this one over its pair. Knowing it would be paired with Wide Ocean, I decided that the taller, loftier form ought be brought down using a heavier, black glaze; Contrasting with Wide Ocean’s heavier form with a lighter glaze.

Wide Ocean, made in pair with Deep Night, was the first wide belly, slim neck vessel I threw to any level of success. This vessel was also the first successful use of floating blue glaze. dipped slowly twice this glaze proved to run quite a bit requiring the base to be sanded, allowing it to sit flat. Knowing it would be paired with Deep Night, I decided that the shorter, heavier form ought be brought up using a lighter, floating blue glaze; Contrasting with Deep Night’s lighter form with a heavier glaze.
